Case Study No: 06

Patient Details: Pihu/Female/9 Mths

PHC Name: Dungra, Vapi, Valsad, Gujarat

Presenting Complaint: coughing and breathing difficulties

Consultation/Follow-up Date: February 15, 2025

Anjali, a 28-year-old homemaker from Dungra Village, was worried about her 9-month-old daughter, Pihu, who had a persistent cough and mild fever. Finding a doctor for her little one had always been a challenge. Trips to Vapi or Valsad meant long waits at a child specialist’s clinic, disrupting her entire day. With household responsibilities, her elder child’s school drop-offs, and her husband needing to accompany her, these visits were exhausting and stressful.

That’s when her neighbour, Parul, told her about Dr Shilpa Pandya, a paediatrician who had once treated her son in 2023 at the telemedicine Centre at Dungra PHC. Encouraged by Parul’s experience, Anjali decided to take Pihu to the telemedicine facility alone.

At the centre, Anjali met telemedicine sister Lalita who created a video consultation for Pihu with Dr Pandya. Dr Pandya who spoke in Gujarati, examined Pihu via video consultation, recommended necessary tests and prescribed medicines for her cough and fever. Within 2 days, Pihu recovered well—her cough reduced, her fever subsided, and she became more active, bringing immense relief to Anjali and her family.

The convenience and efficiency of the telemedicine service, along with the support of the social worker and access to free prescription medicines, not only helped Pihu regain her health but also gave Anjali peace of mind. Grateful for the service, she now shares her experience with other mothers, encouraging them to use the telemedicine centre for accessible and stress-free healthcare.
