The Breast Cancer Screening Camp organized by Bayer Foundation India, Telerad Foundation and RxDx Healthcare with the support of Hafele and AkzoNobel at Hoskote Taluk Hospital, Bengaluru, was inaugurated this Wednesday.
These camps are also being conducted at 4 comprehensive telehealth clinics and are expected to cover approximately 50 plus villages and reach over 210 beneficiaries. Breast screenings are carried out by visually impaired women specially trained in the innovative tactile breast screening technique by Discovering Hands, Germany.
The Discovering Hands project came to India in 2015, implemented by the National Association for the Blind (NAB) and the Centre for Blind Women and Disability Studies, supported by the Bayer Foundation India.
During the inaugural ceremony of the breast screening camp initiated with a warm welcome to the gathering by Ms Suma S, Manager, Projects, Telerad Foundation, Dr Saradha, Taluk Hospital, Hoskote spoke about the significance of early screening to save oneself from chances of rapid breast cancer proliferation.
Dr Satish, CMO of the Taluk Hospital, Hoskote, delivered the welcome and keynote address.
Ms Ashwini, Associate Manager, EnAble India walked the audience through the key goal of EnAble India in empowering the specially-abled members of our society. She also introduced Ms Noornnisa and Ms Ayesha, who are comprehensively trained in the tactile technique of breast cancer detection and the method of applying varying pressure applications to detect lumps in the breast. EnAble India is the Training Partner for the National Association of the Blind (NAB). NAB envisions an empowered and well-informed visually challenged population of our country, through socio-economic rehabilitation of the visually challenged in the mainstream, through education, training and employment, thus enabling them to lead a life of dignity and productivity. NAB also focuses on the prevention of preventable and cure of curable visual impairment and advocates against all types of individual and structural discrimination and assures accessibility to the world of information.
Ms Dhanalakshmi R, CSR Business Partner- Strategic Projects & Stakeholder Engagement, Bayer Foundation India, explained the mission behind conducting the camp.
Dr Prettysha Curtis, HR- Manager OHC & CSR lead, AkzoNobel India was delighted to speak on the grave importance of organizing more such awareness-cum-screening programmes to aid people from the brink of health hazards. In short, awareness about sensitive health issues is key.
Mr Bijaya Sahu, Plant Head, AkzoNobel Hoskote plant, commented on the vast efforts which went behind conducting the camp.
Ms Deepika Bedi, Chief Engagement Officer, Telerad RxDx Healthcare, too expressed her thoughts on the breast cancer screening awareness camp.
Mr Ashwani Sinha, shared his insightful thoughts on the Telerad Foundation projects. He suggested that the breast cancer screening camps was in full swing and organized for an expansive period to reach maximum beneficiaries.
Ms Sabha Ahmed from Telerad foundation delivered the vote of thanks.
The Breast screening camp for women of 35 years and above will continue till 24th December 2022 to reach the maximum beneficiaries and match the convenience of all those preferring to get screened. Furthermore, beneficiaries who receive reports suggesting positive cases will receive a free Gynaecologist consultation. This will be followed by a referral to the district hospital for a confirmatory test and follow-up treatment.
